An Essay for my Friends


Not too long ago a friend asked “What is a friend?” I answered “A friend is a person who is there for you no matter what. A person who wants to see you happy regardless of their own needs. A friend will go out of their way to cheer you up or make you smile. A friend will be there to listen to your problems, offer comfort and advice, and , when needed, be a shoulder to cry on. Friends will want what is best for you.” This is what I want to be for the friends I’ve managed to make.

Becky. My dear Becky. You are such a selfless, beautiful, talented, wonderful, absolutely amazing person. I wish you weren’t in such a bad situation. People tear you down for no good reason but to make themselves feel big. No one deserves to be called worthless, least of all you. You are so amazingly talented and worth every penny you make from your art. The most amazng thing is that you are self taught. You could teach me a thing or two and I have had formal training. That is an amazing gift.

You think you are alone, and maybe having online friends is different, but you have people here on dA who love you very much. Biology is not required to be a family, and sometimes those biologically related to you aren’t fit to be a family. Family supports each other, they don’t blame each other for things that could not be seen or prevented, they do not hold frivolous grudges, and they don’t tear each other down. We are your family. Here on dA, the friends that you have that always cheer you up and try to make you feel better are your family. We love you and would miss you greatly if you left us. Take sanctuary in us and only tolerate the rest of the world if you must. Ignore the flamers and haters. They don’t know you. They have nothing good or true to say. We will never lie to you or hurt you.

You know how I feel about you and I am perfectly fine with your decision. I will always love you Becky, and I would be honored if I could call you my dear sister.

I haven’t known you for very long but you have been a good friend. You’re talented and sweet and always willing to help. You always stand up for yourself and your friends. You listen when a friend has a problem, and you are fun to talk to.

You are a wonderful person and I’m proud to call you my friend.

Friendly, spunky, fun, creative, smart, funny, pretty, and loyal. These things describe you. You are wonderful to talk to and you always listen to my problems. You are always there when I need to vent or when I’m upset. We have a lot in common and you are a lot of fun to talk to. You always give good advice and you always make me feel better when we talk if only because you were there and you cared.

Thank you for being there for me, I’ll always be there for you.

You are a sweet, funny girl who never fails to make me laugh even if I’m in the depths of depression. You have a cute personality and are fun to talk to. You are always around when I need a cyber-hug or a friendly word.

You are a great friend and I hope you’ll stay that way.

I don’t think I’ve ever met someone who had so many funny stories to tell. I always look forward to your posts and journals because they always brighten my day. You always have something kind to say and you are full of encouragement. You are a great photographer and a kind awesome friend.

Last but not least by a longshot. The man who claimed my heart and inspires me everyday. I always want to be with you, supporting you and encouraging you to strive for your dreams and do your best. I love you so much and I miss you lots when we are apart. Someday we will be together forever and I will wait as long as I have to to make you mine.

I cherish and love all my friends and hope I can be as good a friend as they have all been to me. I’m not sure how I managed to end up with such amazing people in my life, but I am deeply thankful for the bonds I have forged. To all of my friends, Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being there and making dA worth visiting. I’ll be here for each and every one of you whenever you need me.
